Reassorted | Royal Society of Portrait Painters
- | East Gallery
Free admission, booking is not required.
Invited by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, William Feaver presents Reassorted, a curated selection of works from the RP Annual Exhibition 2024.
With its critical reconfiguration drawing surprising new relationships between works, revisit the show afresh through this continued celebration of the best in contemporary portraiture.
Expect to see some of the best painted and drawn portraits selected from national and international submissions.
What one hopes for, over the weeks and months and years, is that from the familiarity of the pretext – person or place – something marvellously new has been released
William Feaver is a British art critic, curator and lecturer specialising in the work and life of Lucian Freud. A frequent sitter for several leading figurative artists, including most recently Frank Auerbach, Feaver has intimate knowledge of the nuances of contemporary portraiture.
'June Mendoza was extraordinary. There are so many threads to pull together; her career as a society and royal portrait painter, her life as a comic book artist, her energy, her love of music, her patronage oof Australian musicians, and so much more. To be smiling and painting when you are ninety-nine years old has to be the testament of a glorious life. She was beautiful and funny, sparkling and gifted.' – Anthony Connolly PRP
