The Society of Graphic Fine Art presents a series of special events during the Society's 104th Annual Open Exhibition.
All events are free to attend, no booking required.
Panels, Pigments, Practice | Ibby Lanfear SGFA
Monday 10 March, 2pm - 4pm
Ibby will bring a selection of natural materials and demonstrate some of the techniques and processes that go into making her drawings on panel. She will welcome all questions and discussions and is looking forward to sharing ideas around pigments, practice and material meaning.
Drawing in Graphite Realism | Graham Lewis Heron SGFA
Tuesday 11 March, 12:30pm - 2pm
Graham will demonstrate how to draw realism using graphite.
Liquid Graphite using a Bamboo Pen | Margaret Eggleton SWA SBA SGFA
Tuesday 11 March, 2pm - 4pm
Margaret is a plein-air artist who, for the demonstration, will be working from a photograph on her iPad. She will also bring some plein air examples of a similar subject and will be drawing with sepia Derivan Liquid Graphite using a bamboo pen on HP watercolour paper dry mounted on board.
Don’t Touch That! | Arianna Tinula Milesi SGFA

Arianna combines her passion for drawing with her love for clothing by painting on fabric. It's a fun, sustainable way to transform something through lines, a different and bold way to communicate. If you are curious, join her and she'll tell you all the secrets of using a lot of unexpected material as your canvas.
Creating Colourful Pastel Landscapes | Dawn Limbert ASGFA

Dawn will guide you through her process of creating colourful pastel landscape paintings in the studio. Focusing on the foundations of successful representational art, including composition, values, colour, and drawing; Dawn will guide you through her process.
Drawing Portraits | Jill Iliffe SGFA

Jill will demonstrate drawing a portrait from her own reference in graphite pencil, giving hints and tips on creating a likeness and mood, using tone, texture and line.
Sketching Workshop for All | Karen Neale SGFA
Wednesday 12 March, 2pm - 4pm
Karen’s passion is sketching and painting the world around her in her sketchbook diaries, and sharing that by encouraging and inspiring others to draw too. Bring along a sketchbook, pen or pencil, and a simple object if you like and enjoy the simple pleasure and mindfulness of drawing.
From the Studio to the Field | Louisa Crispin SGFA SBA

Hints and tips for drawing insects as Louisa develops her studio practice into a language of immediacy, working outside and relinquishing control to the elements: lying quietly in a sunny meadow, responding to the sounds of nature, surrendering to the moment.
Drawing Hands | Giulia Quaresima ASGFA

Sky Portrait Artist of the Year contestant, Giulia Quaresima will be sharing some hints and tips for drawing hands, exploring their structure and anatomy. She will be working on a new drawing in the gallery from her own reference picture. She will also bring some of her drawings as an example on the subject and will happily welcome questions during this session.
A Unique Approach to Portraiture | Michele Ashby PS SWA SGFA
Thursday 13 March, 2pm - 4pm
During her demonstration, Michele will showcase her unique approach to portraiture, focusing on how she utilises the natural colour of the paper as a mid-tone to enhance depth and realism. She will also explore the role of negative space in her compositions, revealing how strategic restraint can create a dramatic and compelling visual impact. This is an interactive session, and Michele warmly encourages questions throughout.
Creating Realism | Jamie Eade ASGFA
Friday 14 March, 12:30pm - 2pm
Jamie will be demonstrating techniques and the process of how he draws one of his classic pencils, with tips and advice and all the tools used to create the realism. All questions are welcome.
Layered Printing | Harriet Brigdale VPSGFA
Friday 14 March, 2pm - 4pm
Harriet will be cutting a stencil out of paper and use a jellie plate to create a background for the image. The stencil will be placed on top of the painted plate, on top of that she will put paper, and using pressure, some of the paint will be printed on this sheet. She will be printing several layers to get an interesting result - it's experimental and fun.
Painting/Drawing with Thread | Emily Tull SGFA

Emily will be working on one of her 'thread paintings', artworks made with hand embroidery in a contemporary style. She will have examples of work and sketchbook with her too.
Process versus Product | Sumi Perera RE SGFA FSDC
Saturday 15 March, 2pm - 4pm
Sumi will discuss the thinking behind her work, which is driven by drawings and research exploring different methodologies that contribute to many traditional & contemporary original printmaking techniques. She will bring in sketchbooks, artist books, original prints and a small printing press.
