Susan has always felt passionately about drawing. This is why pastels and charcoal appeal to her. Putting chalk to paper is exciting and immediate. The softness and colours of the pastel and silkiness of the charcoal are wonderful. Susan aims to get mood into her pictures and find these mediums lend themselves well to this.
Methodology
Susan mainly uses pastels (soft and oil), charcoal and pencil. She draws on paper and pastel board. Often she works on several artworks at once, as working on a single painting can often become stale, whilst one can look at it with a fresh eye at a later date. Susan also likes a change of subject matter. She works mainly on the spot and from sketches, imagination or simply memory. She does sketch a lot, even as a car or rail passenger, getting images down quickly.
