We congratulate all the prize winners and admire every artist, whether they're members of the RP or talented selected artists showcasing their work in the RP Annual Exhibition 2024.

Winner | The Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture, Andrew James RP NEAC
The work is a portrait of my father. It's a slightly experimental work, and very personal. I wanted the work to speak about the end stage of his life. He's 93 now and for a few years he's had various health problems which has meant he hasn't been able to paint - he's a painter. I've chosen some of my favourite works of his as context for the painting, so the flowers and the paintings in the background are all borrowed from his work and they're my interpretation of them.
SHORTLIST
The winners of The William Lock Portrait Prize and The Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture were announced on the 16th of May as Mark Shields and Andrew James NEAC RP, respectively - congratulations to them both, and to the other shortlisted artists.
