Mall Galleries Features at Women in Art Fair 2024
After the success of last year's event, the Women in Art Fair is returning to Mall Galleries this October, celebrating work by female-identifying artists. The event is hosted by WIAF and will take place from Wednesday 9 October to Saturday 12 October, featuring an open call exhibition and contemporary gallery booths.
Mall Galleries will be participating in the Fair this year, presenting the work of Catherine Chambers, a Royal Society of British Artists Rising Star.
Catherine Chambers is a London-based artist whose works are filled with places and people from her experiences of living abroad in Ethiopia and the Middle East.
Her warmly-coloured portraits, inspired by environments and their inhabitants, capture intimate moments of connectedness. However, as with all good portraiture, there is more than meets the eye to her work. These works ask the viewer to confront the complicated dynamics of love, care and identity.
Having joined the FBA community as an RBA Rising Star earlier this year, Catherine’s work will feature in their Annual Exhibition in 2025 and we are excited to see the development of her practice.
Her success continued throughout the year as she was awarded third place in the recent Herbert Smith Freehills Award at the National Portrait Gallery for her artwork ‘Lying’ and she was a finalist at Women in Art at The Roundhouse.
As part of the FBA’s commitment to supporting emerging figurative artists, Catherine has been selected to represent Mall Galleries at the Women in Art Fair 2024.
