The Society of Scribes and Illuminators' Centenary Exhibition: Words Made Beautiful
Mall Galleries is thrilled to reopen to the public with the first exhibition of the year 2022: Society of Scribes and Illuminators' Centenary Exhibition!
What to Expect?
The exhibition Words Made Beautiful celebrates an impressive milestone for The Society of Scribes & Illuminators.
The exhibition presents a curated collection of fine calligraphy featuring the work of SSI Fellows and Lay Members, and a beautiful reflection of one hundred years of expressive lettering nurtured by the Society. Drawing on the exhibition title for inspiration, the contributors have used a wide variety of media and techniques to produce an impressive display of contemporary works that reveal the breadth and diversity of calligraphy and lettering as a modern art form. The exhibition also offers a rare opportunity to view historical works by some of the most notable calligraphers of the 20th century, kindly loaned by the Crafts Study Centre. A number of seminal historical works by Fellows of the Society accompanies the newer pieces.
The exhibition will also travel during the year to Swansea Museum (5-19 August) and Stockport Art Gallery (dates TBC).
