Lotta Teale ROI

Statement

Lotta is inspired by early 20th Century painters and paints from life, with a focus on still life, interiors, gardens and architecture. She aims to paint loosely, with accuracy of colour and drawing, and with a variety of edges, while maintaining a certain liveliness. Her paintings often evoke memories of a calmer time and allow the viewer a moment to breathe.

Raised in London, for the last twenty years she has lived across a range of different countries, having trained as a barrister and worked for 14 years in law and development, only turning to painting full time in 2018. Over the last few years she has lived between Jerusalem, Tuscany and London, and her subject matters reflect these varied surroundings.

Lotta is primarily self-trained, but has taken a number of short courses including: The Slade summer foundation course (1998), Cours d’Ete at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts, Paris (2000), a workshop with Julian Merrow-Smith in Provence (2018) and a short course with the Charles Cecil Academy in Florence (2019).

She now does animal law one day a week on a pro bono basis.
