Experience of place is central to Martin Goold's artistic activity. The encounter with natural and urban landscapes sets in motion a myriad of associations and prompts. Subsequent work brings into play references and trajectories that reach beyond the depiction of appearance.
Goold is interested in how atmospheric conditions modulate an environment; he is particularly interested in muted twilight and nocturnal light. These moments of transition act as definite markers in the passage of time, and have special importance in Goold's work.
Methodology
Martin Goold creates works in series rather than isolation. Through his artistic process, he seeks a balance between intent and accident, between spontaneous gesture and measured graphic techniques.
Bio
Martin studied at Chelsea School of Art, gaining an MA in Fine Art and Painting in 1984.
