Daniel Shadbolt NEAC

Statement

These pictures represent a domestic and working setting, with an element of structure that is one of the most noticeable aspects of the images.  Colour and tone work together in the attempt to make something real about the space described.  There is a sense of duration and how this relates to the image.  Whether or not there is a figure in the paintings seems to be secondary to the more formal concerns of the picture making process.  The square composition of ‘Morning Interior’ was arrived at after several alterations, and in the end was made from drawings

Methodology

Paintings are in oils and represent the human body, portrait or surroundings through their involvement with the drawing and looking made from life.  They are painted on linen, which is stretched, sized and primed by the artist.  A picture may be painted in under an hour, or be worked on for several years.
