Nick Orsborn RI
Statement
Orsborn's great love is for watercolour. For him it embodies the perfect balance between freedom of expression and a disciplined approach to the realisation of an idea or a feeling. Most of his paintings are concerned with expressing the brighter and optimistic side of life, not its darker moments .
Methodology
Orsborn rarely works from life, except when painting flowers. His watercolours are created from his imagination, visual and verbal association, and memory of things seen. Preparatory drawings are simple scribbles. He paints directly onto the paper, drawing with my brush - never pencil. Even though his works are largely figurative, he is always attempting to explore and express the abstract qualities of the medium. He does not believe in absolute rules - each painting dictates its own .
