Roy mainly uses charcoal on various papers, working on one drawing at a time. There is a great beauty and thrill in viewing towns and cities from a high vantage point (for him the higher the better). The positioning of each building is a little like completing a large, complicated jigsaw puzzle. He also spends a lot of time observing and drawing trees and other natural forms, working from different viewpoints that he finds exciting. His work is underpinned by a dependence on close, hard looking. Back in his studio he transforms this into large, densely detailed charcoals. He gets great satisfaction from working on a drawing, whatever the subject matter. For Roy its all about the power and subtlety of a line on a piece of paper.
Commissions can take from 1 week to a month, depending on size and subject.
