After being sent to Zimbabwe to produce drawings for childrens books published by Longmans at the age of 25, David Parrt was inspired to progress from Natural History illustration to full-time wildlife painting, with an emphasis upon African wildlife. David visits East Africa regularly and continue to produce drawings and paintings of big cats in particular. He also regularly paints the wildlife of Cornwall, particularly around the River Fowey on the South coast.
Methodology
David works mainly from his field sketches and photographs. Preparatory sketches and drawings are done on layout paper, then transferred to watercolour board. He favours watercolours and gouache, as he likes to have mounts around my pictures, but he also strays into oils from time to time.
