Richard Tratt is always inspired by the natural world and by Britain’s lush and diverse landscape. His paintings focus mainly on his local area of Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. He says, "So many exciting variations occur from Chalk Downland to New Forest lowland heath and westwards to the fabulous Dorset coast."
Methodology
Richard works in oil on canvas. He spends a lot of time outdoors researching his subjects and sometimes painting in the basis of the landscape. Most of the paintings are brought indoors for completion of finer details in the studio. Richard is usually working on five or more paintings at any one time! When doing commissioned paintings he is quite happy to work from photographs.
