Lucy’s art and still life painting focuses on a combination of every day and often quirky objects, which hopefully encourages the viewer to see beauty and inspiration in things that might not always catch their attention. The paintings often have a serene mood, which she tries to actively express. Lucy has a love of intricate detail and capturing light, beauty and form.
Methodology
Lucy works exclusively in oil paint on canvas or linen, painting from a combination of life and some photography. Her paintings take a varied amount of time depending on complexity and are developed carefully. She begins with a detailed pencil study drawn directly onto the canvas and then builds up the oil paintings gradually over the established structure of the initial drawing.
Bio
Born in Yorkshire in 1974, Lucy chose not to follow the route of a formal art school education, instead preferring simply to paint and learn from close observation and studying painting. Her work is in collections both nationally and internationally.
In 2010, Lucy was elected Associate Member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. In 2011 she was elected as a full member of the ROI.
Lucy is currently the Hon. Secretary for the ROI.
