"The boundary between representation and abstraction is of particular interest to me. My image begins with something seen, a building, landscape or object taken out of context or a particular light. The finished pieces evolve out of a process of continual change and an innate knowledge of colour and composition."
Jean’s interest in the two dimensional plane and the texture of the picture surface is evident. Jean believes art is an extraordinary glance at the ordinary. Her paintings are about reality without resorting to imitation. Jean tries to create personally meaningful work, working in acrylic, mixed media and water-based media in her studio from previously made sketches, except when commissions take her elsewhere. Her work is in private collections here and abroad.
