The exhibition 'Players: All the World’s a Stage' was created by the artist Christine Youldon with the aim of celebrating the art of theatre through the medium of the art of portraiture.
Art and theatre have always been inextricably linked, and in this exhibition they are aligned beautifully in this series of portraits on display at Mall Galleries. The subjects of these portraits include the full spectrum of talent from both on stage and behind the scenes, including actors, directors, producers, playwrights, administrators and theatre critics.
All profits from the sale of the paintings and catalogue will be donated to the charity Acting for Others, to support theatres and those that work in them, to ensure that they continue to thrive for years to come.

The Artist
Christine Youldon drew and painted from an early age and won a place at art school, however, she chose to take a practical approach and study law. After graduating and attending Law School, she qualified and practised as a solicitor for 10 years.
However, art was to strike back: “At the back of my mind I always thought of myself as a painter,” Christine recalls. With the desire to paint taking hold, she took the unusual step and went from being full-time lawyer to part-time lawyer and part-time artist, eventually becoming a full-time artist, specialising in portraiture.

The Charity - Acting for Others
Acting for Others provides financial and emotional support to all theatre workers in times of need through their network of 14 member charities. In addition to individual grant making to alleviate financial suffering, the network provides counselling, benefit advice, support for nursing home fees, help with retraining and help for the children of actors.
In the 1960s, Laurence Olivier, Noel Coward and Richard Attenborough had the idea of creating a single appeal organisation for all theatrical charities. As such, The Combined Theatrical Charities Appeals Council, now Acting for Others, was formed.
