The Plantae 2025 exhibition celebrates the beauty and diversity of the plant kingdom through outstanding botanical art. Marking the 40th anniversary of the Society of Botanical Artists, this special edition of the annual exhibition will be held at Mall Galleries, London, from 28 May to 7 June 2025.
This milestone event will feature a curated selection of works by SBA members, graduates of the SBA Distance Learning Diploma Course, and non-members. In addition, Plantae 2025 will showcase the winners of the RHS Rhododendrons, Camellias and Magnolias Group Competition, which is exclusively open to SBA members.
The exhibition encompasses the entire plant kingdom, depicted in a variety of media, including watercolour, oil, gouache, acrylic, graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink, as well as three-dimensional works such as ceramics, glass, sculpture, and jewellery. Each piece reflects botanical accuracy, artistic excellence, and originality.
"The art of botanical painting continues even in the face of enhanced photographic technology and the digital revolution, for there is simply no substitute for the discerning talents of the artist capturing the essence of plant form."
Plantae 2025 highlights the significance of plants in our environment, combining scientific precision with artistic creativity. Visitors will also have the opportunity to attend demonstrations and workshops by leading botanical artists, offering insight into their techniques and artistic processes.
Founded in 1985, the Society of Botanical Artists has promoted botanical art and public appreciation of the genre for four decades. The 40th Anniversary Plantae Exhibition continues this legacy, celebrating botanical illustration while fostering environmental awareness.
