Your portrait commission journey starts with you sharing your vision and ideas. The Mall Galleries Commissions Consultants can then guide you through the process of finding and commissioning the right portrait artist from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters (RP).
Founded in 1891, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, a member of the Federation of British Artists, aims to encourage the appreciation, study, and practice of portraiture. The Society contains a broad collection of stylistic and intellectual approaches that continue to make a significant contribution to the tradition of portraiture today.
Portrait commissions play an essential role within the Society and are a vital part of the Members' painting practice. Over the years, the Society has handled the commissions of high-profile individuals, from Royalty and the Prime Minister to leading academics, heads of industry, actors, and singers.
Making portraiture accessible
The annual exhibition held in May at Mall Galleries, a visual arts charity that has been supporting artists since 1961, showcases recent portraits by members and works by over 100 emerging artists. In addition, a permanent collection of Members' portraits is on display to the public at Girton College, Cambridge.
